DAY 11 – Rest at Camp 2
Gotta love a good day of rest–especially after the past two days! Sleep is not getting any better, food is slowly diminishing, and the air is definitely thinning. It starts to add up, each contributing to the level of difficulty here. But today was breezy with the bright sun warming our tents like a little greenhouse.
It was a beautiful day as we did some light crampon work in preparation for our summit push.
Breathtaking views of the Andes Mountain Range to the west towards Chili.
And here’s a look back over that stretch we did through those penitentes yesterday–much nicer today!
I packed a bunch of beef jerky sticks, knowing most of our meals would be high in carbs.
The inside of the Chomps wrapper read: “Put one foot in front of the other and almost anything is possible.” Yep. We will certainly need to be #CHOMPIANS over the next two days!
The forecast remained stable for a summit attempt on Tuesday. That means we will move to Camp 3 tomorrow, which should be another tough day. It’s only 1 mile away, but gains about 1,500′ with loads that won’t be too much lighter. We did eat some and will be wearing more, so hopefully that helps.
