My final day was spent organizing gear for the long flight home — and taking one last walkabout through the city. This time, I set out to explore Parque San Martín, a 1.5-square-mile nature area just west of Mendoza’s main plaza. I’d heard so much about this park that I couldn’t leave without seeing it.
Mendoza Argentina Temple
The morning began with me skipping breakfast and catching an Uber to the Mendoza Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I always try to attend church or visit the temple wherever I travel, and love that no matter where we are in the world, we can always find a House of the Lord.
Parque San Martín
From there, I walked back toward Mendoza, taking a detour through San Martín Park along the way.
The rumors were true — this park is every bit as beautiful as people said!
My walkabout continued around the lake, where I came across a concert area at the south end.
I don’t think you can swim here, but Club Mendoza de Regatas offers plenty of sports and activities.
A beautiful rose garden lines the northeast shoreline — directly opposite the clubhouse.
I ended up putting another 10 miles on my hiking shoes by the time I got back to the hotel.
Adiós Argentina
Before leaving Mendoza, I made one last stop at Bigalia for — you guessed it — one last slice of tiramisu!
Oh, I just couldn’t resist. It felt like the perfect way to cap off this awesome visit to Argentina.
As I flew back over the Andes range between Mendoza and Santiago, I wondered if that might be it — the tallest peak on this side of the globe. If so, I only wish the pilot had called that to our attention.
When I got home — some 20 hours later — my family surprised with with a party, all decorated in red since I had also missed Valentine’s Day. If you look closely, you can see my Echo Flask finally arrived too.
It felt so good to be home.
