Touched the Top o’ Texas

Posted on October 12, 2021June 14, 2022 by Backcountry Fever

This makes 21/50 for me and brings my season of State Highpoints to an end for the year.  12 states in 5 months has been one heck of a ride!

Guadalupe is one of the easier ones, I think! …right up there with Humphreys, Mansfield and maybe even Marcy.  You climb a mere 2,800′ over 4 miles.  Took me only an hour and forty minutes.

There are a few other trails you can explore from this trailhead in you wanted to extend your adventure:

  • Tejas Trail (that can be done as a loop, up to Hunter Peak then down the Bear Canyon Trail)
  • El Capitan Trail (different than the one in Yosemite)
  • Devil’s Hall Trail (looked like a wash that turns into a slot canyon the further up you go)

Full trip report coming soon…

Well look who I ran into while hiking through the Grand Canyon! I follow this guy because he does these insane long-distance hikes, like the Pacific Crest Trail in 2018 (2,600 mi), the Continental Divide Trail in 2019 (3,000 mi) and now the Arizona Trail in 2022 (800 mi). Not once did I ever think my path would cross with his, but I have to say, this unexpected trail passing with someone I follow on Instagram was pretty cool.

I ♥️ the experience of hiking this canyon and got to do it again last weekend for the 4th and 5th time. #4 was North Kaibab to Bright Angel on Friday (10h 15m). Spent the night at Maswik Lodge, then went back the same way (with a long stop at Ribbon Falls) on Saturday for #5 (13h 18m). So not technically a R2R2R, but definitely a Double R2R (DR2R?) or R2R Back-to-back (R2RB2B?). Either way, I'm already looking forward to the next time I can/will do this epic hike!

Spring is my favorite time of year to hit Deseret Peak. It's been a busy month but I needed to squeeze this one in before all the snow melts. The route I took was up Temple and down West Twin for a nice loop around this Tooele County highpoint... also got my 2nd peak for this year's Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge.
